Ambush is producing over 20 adventure races and multisport events in the eastern US in 2006 and is looking forward to the best adventure racing season ever! Many of our adventure races are designed with a unique "freestyle" finish that makes the course very challenging for the elite adventure racer while at the same time doable by 'normal' folks. Although Ambush adventure races can be very tough, we never forget that adventure racing is supposed to be fun and that is the first thing we look for in designing an adventure racing course.
Adventure racing is a term given to multisport competitions comprised of several rugged outdoor events occurring almost non-stop over a period of from several hours in the case of "sprint adventure races", to several days in the case of "expedition" adventure races.
Although there is at present no set format to an
Adventure Race,
most races include, mountain biking, trekking, rappelling, paddling and other challenging endurance activities. Navigation is a key component as the course is not marked and teams must find their way across the wilderness using map & compass.
Where do adventure racers come from? Many are one-time triathletes who grew tired of the same-old-same-old. Some are mountain bikers who wanted a little more. Others saw the Eco-challenge on TV years ago and were captivated by the spectacle of seemingly ordinary folks pushing through unimaginable barriers.
No matter where they come from, more and more people are enjoying the multisport challenges that adventure racing provides. In fact, there are several
women's only adventure races
such as the
Buff Betty Women's Adventure Racing Series.
