Dillon Multigaine Adventure Race Results

I'm not sure how many teams were looking forward to this race when they woke up early Sunday morning to blowing sleet and below freezing temperatures - an especially nasty surprise since Saturday was 65° and sunny!
In the multigaine adventure race format, the course is laid out with a number of checkpoints of differing values. Teams choose their own method of locomotion (foot, bike or boat) and visit the checkpoints in any order they wish. Some "checkpoints" are actually "special events" like the target shooting range and can make the difference between a good and mediocre score. The team that has the most points at the end of the specified time - in this case 6 hours wins. Latecomers lose their highest point control.
The high winds kept most teams off the lake, but Kaczor/Spencer/Smith realized that they would need the high 60 and 70 point controls (accessible only by boat) and set off into a stiff breeze at the start...we weren't sure we'd ever see them again. It must not have been that bad, because they got nearly all of the controls from the boat, returning near the end of the race to grab a couple more by bike and then returned to the finish with only a minute to spare. They had elected to have Mark Spencer do all the shooting for the team, which turned out to be a good move as he shot better than everyone except SWAT team member Al Shaffer of Amphibious Pork, and without the rest of his team to drag down his average, it was good enough for the overall win!
Bill Scanlan, running solo, never did take to the water, but ran and biked and shot well and came in second overall.
It should be no surprise that Team Amphibious Pork outshot everyone - Al Shaffer is on a SWAT team and Kevin Wheeler, in addition to flying a helicopter for Columbus Police is a state summer biathlon champion. Unfortunately they cruised in just about a minute late and lost 60 points, otherwise they would've won with a score of 749.
Iron Jack Flint (Mark Lattanzi) scored the most points from controls(520), but later admitted he didn't take the shooting that seriously and it hurt him.
Funny, not a single person asked for MORE riding on the railroad tracks...
In the end, everyone (eventually) made it back safe and sound for some hot food at the hash house. I bet those heaters were on full blast all the way home!
